Harrison died after one month in office. Some historians believe he would have become a great president. Others believe he would inevitably have failed. But there are a few certainties. Harrison's campaign organization began the tradition of negative campaigning. He gave the longest inaugural address in U.S. history. He had the shortest presidency in U.S. history. The 1840's depression was the greatest crisis of Harrison's era. Yet, he came to the presidency without a plan for ending it.
